But if the standard review groups don't meet your needs, custom review groups ensure that any review routing you imagine can be set up in LightWork.
LightWork enables you to define a multitude of ways to designate who should be involved in the employee appraisal process. Some of the options available to you are: a supervisor only appraisal, a supervisor and employee appraisal, a peer appraisal by employee’s supervisor and supervisor’s direct reports, a 360 appraisal review with supervisor, employee and employees direct reports, a 360 extended appraisal review with supervisor, supervisor’s direct reports, employee and employees direct reports, a custom appraisal review where a list of people can be assigned to provide input to the appraisal.
Configurable Approval Process
There is no limit in LightWork to the number of performance appraisal approval levels, but practically you would want to keep the number of approval levels reasonable. LightWork has the option to require that HR be the final approver. LightWork can also require the supervisor and employee to “sign off” on the final appraisal within the system.
Use the appraisal search feature to quickly and easily find any appraisal you are looking for. Get a list of all employee appraisals, appraisals by employee, employees missing a primary email or manager, and many other customer filters to create the exact list you need.

LightWork’s 9 Box Grid visually displays employees based on their current performance and future potential to help build a path for professional growth, both giving the employee a vision for the future and the company a guide for succession planning.
Remembering an employee's standout accomplishments months or up to a year later can be nearly impossible, and it certainly can lead to an incomplete picture of the employee's performance over the course of the review period. LightWork's Employee Journals provides a dedicated place to record employee accomplishments, special items of note, disciplinary actions, performance notes, and any other documentation you'd like to refer back to during the review period.
Managers and employees can define individual employee goals of a professional or personal nature for a holistic development plan. Future goals and objectives can be set to appear on the next appraisal for easy assessment and follow up.
Writer's block is a real impediment to getting started on employee feedback. LightWork's phrase selector provides an extensive library of comments for reviewers to use or modify to use their own words to articulate feedback for employee performance. The phrases displayed are in context to the competency being rated and the score the reviewer has selected, resulting in relevant, helpful starter content.
There are certain phrases that may be best rephrased or simply left unsaid. The threshold for these decisions may not be shared among all managers. The Disallowed Phrase feature allows for phrases or words to be identified globally as words or phrases not allowed in employee feedback. Any phrases or words added to employee feedback that match any on this list will be flagged during the appraisal process, and the content will be prevented from being saved until the content has been edited to something more tactful.
The configurable word check feature helps reduce errors in appraisals and other documentation by recognizing language that is considered inappropriate.
LightWork provides quick visual access to the information contained in the system. You can view appraisals in the system by workflow step, appraisal manager and a host of other filters. Drill down capabilities are available to provide additional detail. LightWork provides easy access to goals, journals, team members and appraisals that are coming due or are past due. LightWork provides an All Work widget that displays appraisals in the queue and any item that requires an action by the person. All dashboards are configurable so they can be personalized to provide each person with efficient and comfortable views.
Imports & Integrations
LightWork Performance Management integrates with any HR or payroll system that you are currently using today, or if employee data is being housed in Excel spreadsheets, that can be imported into LightWork as well. There is no need to rekey data, eliminating the risk of errors or conflicting information.
